Accompanying the Elderly Scheme

Purpose

  1. Alleviate pressure from caring for the elderly 
  2. Needy elderlies can receive quality companion care service 

Who We Serve

  • Elderlies aged 60 and above in the area, or 
  • Elderlies' carers needing assistance from volunteers

Service Details

Volunteers who have received Elderly Care Training Course will provide the following services:

  • Escort to medical appointments 
  • Shopping companion 
  • Home companionship (e.g. conversing, playing chess) 
  • Outing companionship (e.g. going for dim-sum, visiting parks, being an exercising partner)
  • Daytime transportation escort
  • Daytime in-home cooking

Service Hours

  • Monday: Friday: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9 a.m. - 12 noon

Service Fees

Member

  • $10/hour (recipients of Comprehensive Social Security Assistance/those in financial difficulties)
  • $25/hour (regular elderlies/carers)

Non-Member

  • $40/hour

Note

  1. If transportation is involved in the service, the volunteer's fare is to be borne by the applicant. 
  2. Fees can be waived for elderlies needing urgent assistance due to emergency situations after assessment by the social worker 
  3. Minimum service duration each time is 2 hours

All service fees collected are for volunteer's honorarium and training expenses, etc.


How to Apply (pamphlet and service application form , programme application form)

  1. Please fax application form to the respective elderly neighbourhood centre, or, 
  2. Apply in-person at the elderly neighbourhood centre in your area

(Note: First-time applicants will be assessed by a social worker. We reserve the right of the final decision of providing any service.)

Accompanying the Elderly Scheme --- Companion Ambassador Training Course


Course Purpose:

Recruit and train ambassadors providing companion care to the elderlies, equipping them with adequate knowledge and techniques to escort an elderly to medical appointments and other outings so that while elderlies in the community can get the assistance, pressure on their carers is also alleviated.
Who:Carers of elderlies, volunteers, general public in the community
Fees:free of charge


Curriculum:

  1. Understanding the Elderly and Related Communication Techniques (speaker: registered social worker)
  2. Caring for frail elderlies (speaker: registered Physiotherapist)
  3. Understanding dementia (speaker: registered social worker)
  4. Safety and everyday care of the elderly (speaker: registered occupational therapist)
  5. Practicum (I): lifting and using walking aids (speaker: registered physiotherapist)
  6. Practicum (II): cognitive games and curriculum conclusion (speaker: registered social worker)
